TWO men driving a stolen car were arrested after a dramatic 20- minute police chase.
Officers started the pursuit at 10.50am yesterday after an orange Vauxhall Astra on the A369 by the M5 junction at Portishead was flagged up on the force’s automatic number plate recognition system.
Several police units, including unmarked cars, followed the vehicle – which had been stolen in Clevedon – along the Portbury Hundred and Wyndham Way into the centre of Portishead. The police helicopter helped track the car through the town.
The car was abandoned in The Downs at about 11.10am.
One man was arrested in The Downs and a second man arrested in a neighbouring street, The Rowans.
A 19-year-old man from Bristol and a 17-year-old man from Clevedon were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
